BUBBLES (2017) WRITER/DIRECTOR
Bubbles is a bitter sweet, short comedy drama set on the outskirts of London. The film tells the story of two young people: Jake, a down on his luck barista, and Bubbles, an endearing, loudmouthed prostitute. The two of them tumble and twirl together through the short film, in an amusing, sexy and slapstick series of events and verbal exchanges, which don’t pull their punches or sugar-coat who they are and what they do.
FINDING FATIMAH (2017) 1st ASSISTANT DIRECTOR
Feature length romantic-comedy about an aspiring comedian, Shahid, and his search for love. A divorcee on the wrong side of thirty, Shahid tries everything from speed-dating, to mobile apps to find love, before stumbling across 'the one'; Fatimah. Directed by first time Director, Oz Arshad, 'Finding Fatimah' is a fresh take on the genre, touching upon cultural taboos that others wouldn't dare to.
MAKING NOISE QUIETLY (2017) 3rd ASSISTANT DIRECTOR
From acclaimed theatre Director, Dominic Dromgoole, comes this feature length adaptation of the stage production 'Making Noise Quietly'. Split across three timelines, this feature boasts a tantalising cast and stunning locations. A delicately poetic triptych of plays, Holman's seminal work paints a very human picture of the subtly devastating effects of war and examines the bonds of suffering shared by us all.
FRIEND LIKE ME (2016) PRODUCER/ASSISTANT DIRECTOR
Produced in coalition with Ron Howard's 'Incubator' program with New Form Digital, 'Friend Like Me' tells the story of one man and his genie. After he and his girlfriend's breakup, Toby and his genie's relationship takes a turn for the worse.
NOT THE JOHN LEWIS CHRISTMAS AD (2015) PRODUCER/DIRECTOR
Playing on the sentimental nature of Christmas adverts of recent years, this short sketch twists the convention to shocking effect. Produced for YouTube channel 'ChewingSand' and creator Hazel Hayes, this piece stars child actor Stanley Warbrick, Khyan Mansley and Hazel Hayes as a perfect, picturesque family on the build up to Christmas.
SEXY TORTURE CHAMBER (2015) PRODUCER/1st ASSISTANT DIRECTOR
Working with YouTube creator Hazel Hayes, I produced the short Halloween themed sketch 'Sexy Torture Chamber'. This production took a themes of sexual tension and virginity, and applied them to a horrific torture environment, making for a comedy driven ride. This production also featured cameos from double act Jack Howard and Dean Dobbs.
BLUE SUSHI (2015) 1st ASSISTANT DIRECTOR
The topical story of a transgender singer 'Scarlett' who comes out to her bandmates and management. When their manager, Rob, suggests that Scarlett hides their true feelings, they're left with a bold decision to make. Working with YouTube stars Bertie Gilbert and Sammy Paul, I helped create something that was critically well received and is helping to change people's perceptions of YouTube filmmaking.
EVELYN (2015) WRITER/DIRECTOR
'Evelyn' is a short film, capturing post WW2 Britain, and in particular one man's struggle to come to terms with losing his best friend and his wife. Starring Thomas Davison (Kajaki, 2014), this film is currently in the post production process. Having worked on this film from its inception, 'Evelyn' has become a passion piece for myself. Being present throughout and seeing it wholly through every stage of the production process has been a true joy.
ONE LOG HIPPO (2015) 2nd UNIT DIRECTOR
This edgy dark comedy is the brainchild of Director Chris Hargrave. With Hargrave not only writing and directing 'One Log Hippo', but playing the lead as well, I was brought in to offer an objective view on the performances of all actors. This is a unique role which I took full advantage of
ROAD TO SILIMANJARO (2015) 1st ASSISTANT DIRECTOR
A light-hearted documentary following the plight personalities Eddie Nestor (BBC Radio) and Robbie Gee (Snatch) as they climb the formidable Mount Kilimanjaro. After working with Director Dominic Ryan during his time acting on the Second Variety, I was brought onto this upcoming BBC documentary. Working within documentary filmmaking, meant I was required to adapt and improvise very quickly with interviewees and locations changing constantly.
SECOND VARIETY (2015) 1st ASSISTANT DIRECTOR
An adaptation of Phillip K Dick's novel of the same name, Second Variety is a science fiction thriller, ripe with action and drama. Throughout my time working on this production, I acted as the bridge between cast and crew; ensuring an efficient and thorough workflow. Director, Andrew Fisher, also acted in the piece, which meant that I was also required to direct several scenes throughout production.
THE ART OF LETTERS (2015) 1st ASSISTANT DIRECTOR
This abstract piece based around Shakespeare’s ‘Sonnet 43’ allowed me to work on a set which wasn’t dictated by dialogue or action, but simply on choreography and music. With such precise choreography, an accurate shooting schedule was essential from myself, as well as constant communication with the entirety of the crew to translate where we were editorially.
THE MOST DANGEROUS GAME (2014) WRITER/DIRECTOR
Co-written with writer/director Andrew Fisher, 'The Most Dangerous Game' was a modern re-telling of the classic novel 'The Hounds of Zaroff' by Richard Connell. By stripping down the originally epic story, I was able to concentrate wholly on character and performance. On its completion, this 10-minute production was distributed to a number of North American schools, as Connell's original novel was on the current syllabus.
